A massive landslide occurred in Saint-André, France, on Sunday, August 27, with a mountain section collapsing on a railroad and a motorway. Thankfully, nobody was injured.
According to the local prefecture, boulders with a total volume of 700 cubic meters crashed into a protective barrier on the side of the road put in place by departmental authorities. Rail traffic between France and Italy in Maurienne has been suspended for an indefinite period. The Fréjus tunnel between the two countries is also closed to vehicles weighing over 3.5 tons in both directions.
The Trenitalia railway company canceled all of its trains between Paris and Milan on Monday.
