As reported by the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the area of wildfires in Siberia has decreased by almost 1.2 million hectares. As of today, the fire has covered 2.5 million hectares. A state of emergency has been declared in the Irkutsk and Krasnoyarsk regions, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), and the Buryat Republic.
According to Minister of Natural Resources Dmitry Kobylkin, the fires were caused by dry thunderstorms among other things. Russian President sent planes and helicopters with water tanks belonging to the Defense Ministry to fight the fire. The governors of the affected regions took the situation under their personal control.
Earlier, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev visited the regions. Following the inspection of the territories and negotiations, he ordered the allocation of funds to Siberia and the Far East from the federal budget.
