According to the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, 355 wildfires covering more than 1.2 million hectares have been eliminated. As of August 9, the total area of wildfires exceeded 2.5 million hectares. As reported by the Aerial Forest Protection Service, the extinguishing involves 3.8 million people and 535 units of equipment. 41 aircraft are monitoring the situation and another 28 are extinguishing the fire. Experts are fighting the fire covering about 200,000 hectares.
Since July 30, the number of settlements within the five-kilometer zone (the ‘smoke zone’) has decreased 4.5-fold.
Earlier, a state of emergency has been declared in the Irkutsk and Krasnoyarsk regions, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), and the Buryat Republic due to wildfires. As of today, the most difficult situation is observed in the Boguchansky district of the Krasnoyarsk region, the Ust-Kutsky and Teryansky districts of the Irkutsk region.
The State Fire Service, the Investigative Committee, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs are working together to investigate the causes of the wildfires.
