Flights cancelled because of fog in Sydney

Thick fog engulfed Sydney on Saturday morning, delaying flights, and creating shipping hazards. Social media are full of photos of disappearing landmarks.
Ships had to use their foghorns for safety when leaving the busy Sydney Harbour waterway and entering the open ocean.
A small number of flights from Sydney were delayed, rerouted or cancelled, affecting many airlines including Qantas and Virgin Australia.
International airline passengers were delayed by half an hour, while domestic passengers had to wait for up to two hours.
Representatives of Qantas and Virgin said they had cancelled less than six flights each and were back to normal in the afternoon.
Sydney’s most iconic landmarks, the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, gradually disappeared from view, creating a spectacle for amateur photographers who posted their photos on social media. The fog disappeared by noon.
