Drinking coffee reduces risk of contracting COVID-19, researchers say

Chinese scientists have found that drinking coffee reduces the risk of catching coronavirus, RG reports.

It turns out that the immune response is significantly influenced by the diet, and studies suggest that a polyphenol-rich diet could trigger an active immune response. For example, eating vegetables is a must. Coffee also contains polyphenols.

Coffee can prevent the coronavirus from entering the body due to the activity of cathepsin L. It blocks the mechanism of SARS-CoV-2 entry into the host cells.

The researchers add that coffee contains chlorogenic acid that has anti-inflammatory effects and caffeine that stimulates the immune system.
