The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur intends to clear the polluted air in India using artificial rain, Economic Times reports.

According to expert Manindra Agrawal, Cessna light aircraft equipped with American cloud seeding missiles will be used for this purpose. Scientists have already received the necessary permissions from the government.

The technology will be tested in Delhi, but favorable meteorological conditions (humidity, wind, etc.) are needed for cloud seeding to create artificial rain.

Delhi and other localities in northern India have recently faced heavy smog due to the burning of rice stubble. The pollution has led officials to implement driving restrictions for polluting vehicles and shut down schools.
