Toyota to build ‘city of future’ with drones, robots and smart homes

Japan-based Toyota intends to build a prototype ‘city of the future’ at the base of Mount Fuji on Honshu Island. Toyota’s CEO announced the project at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
Danish expert Bjarke Ingels will be the chief architect of the Woven City project. ‘Woven City’ is a reference to Toyota’s start as a loom manufacturing company.
Under the project, the city will use only self-driving vehicles like Toyota e-Palettes. Artificial intelligence systems, including robot assistants, will be installed in buildings that will be constructed primarily from wood. The project will be powered by hydrogen fuel cells and solar panels.
The city built on a 71-hectare site will be designed for 2,000 residents, including Toyota employees and their families. The project aims to test innovative but eco-friendly technologies.
