Antarctica breaks another temperature record

Antarctica has had its highest temperature on record. The mercury rose to +18.3 degrees Celsius.

The record was set on Thursday, February 6, 2020. It is 0.8 degree higher than the previous record (March 24, 2015, saw a temperature of +17.5 degrees Celsius).
According to scientists, the rate of warming is quite impressive, since an increase of one degree in just five years is a very rapid development of the situation on a global scale. Moreover, it turned out that warming in Antarctica is happening much faster than global average.
As previously reported, huge meltwater lakes have recently been discovered on the continent, and they threaten to accelerate ice melting.
