The New Year holidays saw comfortable winter weather. At first, it was snowy and mild. On January 4, the snow depth reached its usual seasonal maximum (38cm). Temperatures were 3 to 5 degrees above normal, but remained below 0.

Then, Christmas frosts were recorded. January 7 saw the lowest temperature during the holidays (-12.9).
Moderately frosty weather will continue for a few more days. Due to the influence of an anticyclone, nighttime temperature is projected at up to −13 in Moscow and at up to −19 in the Moscow region. Daytime temperature will be around −10.
A warm spell with snow will come from the Atlantic by the weekend. This year’s first thaw (up to +1) is expected on Old New Year’s Day.
